My sweet old man

Heading to bed the other night, I realized Kai wasn't in my room on his bed. So I walked into the living room to see if he was in there......and yes, he was. I was rather surprised to find him sleeping while sitting up on the couch! I snuck out of the living room to find my camera and managed to tip-toe back in and snap the picture below. It was a "blind shot" in the dark, so not very clear, but you can see how he was snoozing!

Kai will be 8 years old in a couple of months. I honestly didn't think he'd live this long, given all of his health issues. His will to keep going really astounds me! He has really "aged" in the past few months and has slowed down tremendously, but he's still the loveable and easy-going dog that won my heart over almost 8 years ago. He seems to know when I need "someone" to lean on. He's always right there ready to listen and willing to let me hug him and cry when I need to, which has been a lot lately. I talk to him about Zen and how much I miss her and how heavy my heart still is over her death. I struggle with everything that happened with her and he just always knows when I need him. I have no other friend quite like him. He's not a fairweather friend like others....he's steady and non-judgemental. Are we ever lucky to have such a friend more than once in this lifetime?

I sure do hope so. Maybe not exactly the same but close to it.

My gosh, my heart just melted. I had a "heart dog" that was just as you describe Kai. G-d bless their hearts.

That is a great picture!!! Kaos and Kai are are a lot alike. I vent and lean on Kaos a lot. I can tell her any secret or tell her anything else and she still loves me and listens to me. When I'm sick or upset a hug from Kaos makes everything feel better.

Well, I think what I call "heart dogs", which is what you are describing in Kai come along every now and then. They are a treasure. I posted about my heart dog on my blog. Tess A Heart Dog-It was in August if you want to take the time to read it. But heart dogs are a tremendous gift.(And they don't take away from your other dogs, they just have that knowing of you is how I describe it) Sorry I have yammered so long. But I get what you are saying.
Hugs to you and to Kai.
